Meet Miss Caise

1.PNG

Hello! My name is Rachael Caise and I am a recent graduate of Illinois State University. I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education with additional endorsements in Science, Social Science and Language Arts. I am so pleased to be your child's teacher for the 2011-2012 school year! This is my first year teaching and I know the not only will I teach your children a lot, but they too will teach me many things!

Outside of the classroom I teach theater classes and direct musicals for Christian Youth Theater all around the Chicago Area. I also enjoy singing, writing, playing the ukulele, cooking, playing tennis, exercising and spending time with my family and friends. I am the director of the Show Choir at Love2Learn Elementary and coach Girls Tennis and the local highschool. I live in Elgin with my Cat, Tinder-Biddles Feline.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments about your child's education don't hesitate to contact me. It has been proven that students whose parents are active in their education have better grades, higher attendance rates and are more likely to graduate from high school. (Jackson & Davis, 2000) I value an open learning environment that facilitates interaction between the classroom and home. Please contact me via email at rcaise@ilstu.edu or by phone 847-888-2002 ext 777. I look forward to hearing from you!

Educational Philosophy

As an educator, I recognize that I need to be responsive to the ever evolving moral and intellectual demands society will place upon me whilst in a classroom. I believe it is important that educators recognize the effects of change that might take place in our students’ lives and the environments that are impacting them every day. There are three virtues that I am going to pursue in order to establish my truths as an educator.

The first is a moral virtue of respect for learners of all ages and a special regard for childhood and adolescence. As I have entered into higher education, I have viewed my fellow student body with much reverence as they have made the decision to pursue a college education. Having a willing heart and an open mind to learn is a road less traveled and it should be highly respected. Adolescent students enter into their schooling with this same willingness, as they have nothing to lose. Young children are eager to gather information to help them navigate the world that they know, and they cannot wait to learn more. I believe that by respecting young learners, I could create a solid educational foundation that will keep them hungry for knowledge.

The second is an interest in and an ability to seek out informational, technological and collegial resources as an intellectual virtue. In accordance with Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory, it is important to recognize that students learn in a variety of ways. As a teacher, I will strive to master different ways of presenting lessons and information to my students. Diversifying your lesson plan techniques will reach more students, by customizing the lesson to fit their needs. As we advance in the technological age, it is important that educators incorporate technology into the classroom as well.

The last virtue that I want to instill into my truths as an educator is the intellectual virtue of contagious intellectual enthusiasm and courage to be creative. Throughout my years spent in a classroom desk I have had my fair share of exciting teachers, as well as those who have fallen short in the creativity department. In order to keep students engaged in learning one must spark passion for learning and take risks! You aren’t going to fall unless you take a leap in the first place. Some say “The past is taught by those who win…” but I believe it is also taught by those who fail… and learn from their mistakes. As teachers we have to have courage in our abilities and be fearless when it comes to approaching new ideas. Only by trying can one learn what does and does not work for our students. Not only are you going to teach your students; but you too will learn in this process.

It is my pledge that, in and out of the classroom, I am going to let my teaching ring true of these three virtues. I know that by doing so, I will undoubtedly impact my students by giving them a strong educational foundation.
